Robotic Single-Site Gallbladder Surgery
Treatment for gallbladder disease may include lifestyle changes and medication. If your symptoms get worse, your doctor may recommend cholecystectomy, surgery to remove your gallbladder. Cholecystectomy can be performed using minimally invasive surgery through one incision in the navel (belly button) to virtually eliminate scarring, called laparoscopic surgery.
With da Vinci® Single-Site® Surgery, doctors remove your gallbladder using advanced instruments. Patients who choose da Vinci Single-Site experience virtually scarless results, similar to single incision traditional laparoscopy. With da Vinci, surgery is performed through one incision in the belly button, which dramatically limits visible scarring.
Benefits of Single-Site Surgery
Patients who have single-site gallbladder surgery may see several benefits, including quicker recovery times and less pain after their surgery. In addition, because there is only a single small incision near the belly button, scarring is virtually eliminated.
The new technique and the da Vinci Surgical System provide benefits to the surgeon as well. The da Vinci system provides greater image magnification than other systems, and uses three-dimensional imaging to help give surgeons a clearer view ot the area in which they are working. While the length of time it takes to complete any surgical procedure can vary, based on the patient and circumstances, surgeons can often remove a patient's gallbladder in less than an hour using the da Vinci Surgical System.
Individual results may vary. There are risks associated with any surgical procedure. Talk with your doctor about these risks to find out if robotic surgery is right for you.
