Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery with the da Vinci 5® Robotic Surgery System

Surgeons at Palmdale Regional Medical Center perform more than 500 robotic surgeries each year. They use the da Vinci Xi® Surgical System and the da Vinci 5® Robotic Surgery System, a next-generation multiport robotic platform from Intuitive that enables surgeons to perform complex procedures using a minimally invasive approach. Palmdale Regional Medical Center is the first hospital in Los Angeles County to implement the da Vinci 5 Robotic Surgery System.

Benefits of Robotic Surgery

Minimally invasive robotic surgery using the da Vinci 5 system can provide a wide range of benefits to patients compared to traditional surgery, including:*

  • Quicker recoveries
  • Shorter hospital stays
  • Quicker return to normal daily activities
  • Reduced scarring
  • Reduced pain and trauma to the body
  • Less pain
  • Less blood loss
  • Reduced need for blood transfusions

The da Vinci 5 Robotic Surgery System

da Vinci 5 consoleDa Vinci 5 is designed to transform surgery to enable better outcomes, efficiency and insights, and as a result, help lower the total cost of care. As with all da Vinci surgical systems, the surgeon is 100% in control of the robotic-assisted da Vinci system, which translates their hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body.

Da Vinci 5 expands upon core da Vinci system features, including wristed instruments, 3DHD visualization, intuitive motion and an ergonomic design. It is designed to enable surgeons to feel more and see more.

The result is an intuitive interface with breakthrough surgical capabilities. The da Vinci system can provide a range of benefits over conventional laparoscopy, in which the surgeon operates while standing, using hand-held instruments that have no mechanical wrists. With conventional laparoscopy, surgeons must look up and away from the instruments, to a nearby video monitor to see an image of the target anatomy. Surgeons must also rely on an assistant at the patient's side to position the camera correctly.

In contrast, the da Vinci System's ergonomic design enables surgeons to operate from a comfortable, seated position at the console, with their eyes and hands positioned in line with the instruments. To move the instruments or to reposition the camera, surgeons simply move their hands.

By providing surgeons with greater visualization, enhanced dexterity, greater precision and ergonomic comfort, the da Vinci 5 Surgery System makes it possible for more surgeons to perform minimally invasive procedures involving complex dissection or reconstruction. This ultimately raises the standard of care for complex surgeries, translating into numerous potential patient benefits.

Our commitment to providing the highest quality of care drives us to continually invest in the latest medical advancements. The introduction of the da Vinci 5 Robotic Surgery System is a testament to our dedication to enhancing patient outcomes and helping to ensure our community has access to advanced healthcare services.

Candidates for Robotic Surgery

Not all procedures can be done robotically, and not all patients are candidates for procedures that can be performed robotically. Only your surgeon can decide if your procedure can be performed robotically.

*Individual results may vary. There are risks associated with any surgical procedure. Talk with your doctor about these risks to find out if robotic surgery or minimally invasive surgery are right for you.
