Your Safety

Palmdale Regional Medical Center has once again been recognized for its dedication to patient safety by being awarded an "A" grade by Leapfrog in the Fall 2023 Hospital Safety Grade, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from preventable medical errors, injuries and infections within the hospital.

This grade is one of the most meaningful honors a hospital can achieve, and one of the most valuable indicators for patients looking for a safe place to receive care. The Hospital Safety Grade is the gold standard rating for patient safety, compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading patient safety experts and administered by The Leapfrog Group, a national, nonprofit hospital safety watchdog.

The score is the first and only hospital safety rating to be peer-reviewed in the Journal of Patient Safety, is free to the public and designed to give consumers information they can use to protect themselves and their families when facing a hospital stay.

Smoke-Free Environment

The use of tobacco of any kind is prohibited inside Palmdale Regional Medical Center and anywhere on the hospital campus by associates, patients and visitors. Cigarettes and smoking materials are not sold at Palmdale Regional Medical Center.

Fire Drills

For your protection, the hospital regularly conducts fire and disaster drills. If a drill occurs while you are here, please remain in your room and do not be alarmed. The hospital is a fire-resistant building, and the staff is trained in fire protection.

Medications

Every medicine that you receive in the hospital is reviewed, prepared and delivered to the unit floor by a licensed and registered pharmacist. The pharmacist screens your medications to help ensure the correct dose is ordered, there is no potential for drug interactions and that you are not given any drug to which you might be allergic. Pharmacists participate in pain management and provide information on drugs to your doctors. Pharmacists are onsite at the hospital 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

Valuables or Lost Items

Patients are asked not to bring items of value to the hospital. If you do bring anything of value with you to the hospital, the staff at the hospital Admitting Department will explain safekeeping procedures to you. A safe will be provided to store your valuables. You will be given a written receipt for all items, which must be presented when you withdraw them. The hospital does not accept responsibility for items of value unless they are deposited according to Palmdale Regional Medical Center's safekeeping procedures. If you lose something, please notify your nurse immediately, who will report the loss to security.

Cell Phones

Although cell phone usage is permitted in the hospital, cell phone photography is prohibited in order to protect patient privacy.
